Adox Atomal 49 is an extra-fine grain, compensating developer offering excellent film speed and high contrast control from development.

As a single-use developer, ATM 49 delivers precise, repeatable results on each roll of film. The powder developer mixes to make a 1-litre stock solution. The stock solution can be used for up to ten films or further diluted as a single-shot developer. Stock solution can be kept in a full container for up to 6 weeks. It was formerly known as Calbe A49.

The 5-litre version mixes to a 5-litre stock and, working the same way, can process up to 50 films, making it the cheapest developer we sell.

The single-use packaging is such a relief after years of mixing powders, and the compensating development really tames harsh contrast without crushing shadow detail. I shot a roll of pushed film and the grain stayed impressively fine, plus the 1L batch size is perfect for a few rolls of 35mm.

Finally, a developer that gives me sharp, sparkling negatives without sacrificing shadow detail—even with my old Ilford FP4. The single-use packets mean I never question whether a partial bottle of concentrate has gone bad.

Natalie H. ★★★★★

Mixed a batch for some Tri-X I'd pushed to 1600 and the compensating effect tamed the highlights beautifully while keeping shadow detail. The single-use powder dissolves completely with no residue, which makes me trust the consistency more than some liquid concentrates I've tried. Grain is noticeabl
