Kaiser has designed its FilmCopy Vario for the exact positioning of slides and negatives (of various formats) for when you want to use your camera, while mounted to a copy stand or tripod, to convert your images to a digital format.

Typically, to use the FilmCopy Vario, you would place it on top of a light panel, like the KaiserPlano.

Use it for standard single 35mm mounted slides or individual 35mm negative frames. If you use built-in the guide ridges of the unit, you can also use it for negative strips (up to 6 exposures) strips.

In addition to this standard configuration, you can purchase optional masks, which fit into the device, if you want to copy 6 x 4.5 cm, 6 x 6 cm, 6 x 7 cm or 6 x 9 cm film formats. These are all the standard masks that go into a Kaiser enlarger, so if you own one, you may already have them. The base has stop pins which adjust for the different masks.

Mounted 35 mm slides can be placed directly from above on the device, but you have to open the frame to use film strips. Also included is an overlay mat (10 x 8 inches) which serves as a protection against any stray light.

Weight of FilmCopy Vario (w/o masks, w/o overlay mat): approx. 600 g (1.3 lbs.).

To make your compying complete, the kit also includes the Kaiser 2453 Slimlite Piano Medium light panel - the mat is sized to fit exactly.

This package is a real alternative to using a scanner enabling your slides and black-and-white or colour negative films can be digitally stored as high quality images.

Joseph ★★★★★

The adjustable height mechanism makes setting up different negative sizes quick and easy. I've been digitizing my old medium format collection, and the precision is exactly what I needed.

Scarlett Z. ★★★★★

Copying dozens of old slides finally feels precise instead of fiddly — the Vario's adjustable gates align each frame square to the sensor in seconds. Even the 6x6 negatives sit flat without me fussing with tape. My digitized scans came out razor-sharp, and the whole kit is solid enough for regular u

John R. ★★★★☆

The sliding film holders lock in place with a satisfying click, and the whole unit feels sturdy enough for repeated use. Took me a few tries to get the alignment right for 35mm strips, but once I did, the results were consistently sharp.
