Kodak XDEV (formerly XTOL) is a real alternative to the current industry standard product of ID11 or D76.

Its advanced formulation delivers speed, sharpness, and grain improvements for photographers while offering processing benefits to education users.

Kodak XDEV developer uses ascorbic acid as the active ingredient rather than hydroquinone. It will produce negatives with enhanced image structure from all black-and-white films. The two-part developer has the cost, packaging, and transport benefits of a powder. The developer's unique chemical formula allows much simpler mixing of working solutions. This is the real improvement over ID11 or D76 as it mixes at room temperature (20 degrees C) not 40 degrees like its predecessors. It can also be used to replenish working-strength developer.

It is suitable for most professional black-and-white films giving very high image quality at full emulsion speed.

Being a powder it has all the advantages of D76 or Perceptol e.g. good shelf life (six months after mixing when stored in full bottles) and a high resistance to breakdown from oxidation during storage or in replenished processes with less waste too.

Abigail A. ★★★★★

You mix a 5L batch and it lasts forever, so the cost per roll drops nicely compared to buying single-use packs. The sharpness it gives my Tri-X negatives is honestly better than what I got with ID11, and grain stays tight all the way through.

Jacob I. ★★★★★

Switched from D76 to this and the shadows are noticeably cleaner with less push processing needed. Mixed easily without clumps, and the 5L size is perfect for developing a month's worth of rolls.

Sophia ★★★★★

The grain structure stays incredibly sharp through the shadows, which my scans have never looked better with. Mixing was straightforward and the 5L batch has lasted me through a solid month of weekend shooting.
