DragonFilm No. IV Black and White Film ISO 400 135-24

DragonFilm No. IV is a high-speed black and white 35mm film originally manufactured in Ukraine for aerial surveillance work. With a recommended rating of ISO 400 and an impressive usable range from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, it offers bold contrast and pronounced grain, with a look reminiscent of classic fast films such as Kodak Tri-X.

Why We Like It

This film has real attitude. DragonFilm No. IV is packed with silver, and it shows in the negatives, delivering strong contrast and a gritty grain structure that works beautifully for documentary-style photography, street work, and expressive low-light shooting. Rated at ISO 400 it is already punchy, but pushing the film rewards you with even more grain and contrast, ideal if you enjoy a raw, energetic aesthetic. The thin PET base needs a little extra care when loading, and it should always be handled in subdued light due to light piping. Once processed, the film dries remarkably flat, which makes scanning at home far easier than many traditional thick-base films.

Sebastian E. ★★★★★

This film has a lovely, subtle grain structure that gives portraits a classic, timeless feel. I pushed it one stop and was still impressed with the shadow detail.

Kevin ★★★★★

I took a chance on this Ukrainian aerial surveillance film and the results are incredibly sharp and contrasty for 400 speed. The grain is finer than I expected from a high-speed stock, and it handles push-processing surprisingly well. Definitely going to buy another roll for street photography.

Charlotte W. ★★★★★

Tried this for a nighttime street shoot and the grain structure gave my shots that gritty, documentary look I was after. The ISO 400 speed handled low light pretty well without too much blown-out highlights.
